The Fortnightly Club, one of the oldest women’s clubs in Champaign County, was formed on March 20, 1895, in the home of Mary Elizabeth Bowen Busey when fourteen women met to discuss the organization of a new club. The club met bi-monthly at a member’s house to discuss literature, world events, the status of women, and to hear from guest speakers. The club also attended plays, musicals, and poem recitals. After 124 years of operation, the Fortnightly Club dissolved on September 10, 2018.
