Homer Women's Club

Mrs. C. D. Babb and friends gathered in her home on December 13, 1897, to discuss forming a club, and on January 28, 1898, the club’s constitution and by-laws were established. Formerly known as The Tuesday Club, the members were required to follow the organization’s principles of intellectual curiosity and social gatherings. While many of the club’s early activities were limited to readings and studies, Babb would attend out-of-town meetings and bring back knowledge of what other clubs were doing and urge the club to work on various projects.

In 1909, the club changed its name to the Homer Women’s Club and began to focus on community service projects. One of these projects led to the creation and care of a park named Women's Club Park near the Wabash railroad tracks. The club maintained the park for thirty years until the city of Homer took over its care in 1953. The club would continue social engagements and community service projects until it disbanded on May 18, 1982.
