Marajen Stevick Chinigo (1912-2002) was the daughter of David W. and Helen M. Stevick. Trained by her parents in all aspects of the newspaper business, Marajen was prepared to run a successful paper. She married Michael Chinigo in 1953, and in 1954, he joined her on the staff of The News-Gazette as Associate Publisher. Following her mother's death in 1967, Marajen became the third member of the family to assume the role of News-Gazette president.

Described as being a hands-on owner with a larger-than-life personality, Marajen was active in the day-to-day operations and content of the paper. She was often responsible for selecting the subject matter for editorials. During her frequent travels, she requested that these articles be read to her over the phone before they were published. Even when she was away from home, she was still very much involved. Copies of the paper and tapes of the radio shows were delivered to her.

In addition to her News-Gazette duties, Marajen was well known for her philanthropy and involvement on various boards of directors. She inherited her parents' passion for travel, frequenting her homes in California and Italy. She led the paper until her death in 2002. The News-Gazette is now owned and run by Community Media Group.
