Ogden's downtown was once again visited by a tornado twenty years after the 1976 twin funnels passed through. The tornado touched down half a mile southwest of Ogden and traveled through the middle of town. It destroyed 68 homes, 12 businesses, two churches, the library, and a grade school. Now east of the village, the tornado crossed I-74 picking up a semi and trailer and rolling it in a field before lifting and dissipating 1 mile north of Ogden. The tornado killed one woman, the passenger in the semi-truck, and injured thirteen others. Another tornado briefly touched down north of Savoy on the same day, leveling three houses under construction. The tornado then lifted and traveled one mile south of Urbana, where it touched down again, destroying 30 homes, damaging tens of other homes and businesses, and injuring twelve.
